Nintendo has a lot to be happy about right now. Their newest console, the handheld Switch, is selling like hotcakes. It was the best-selling video game platform for the month of April, selling 280,000 units. This is the second month in a row that the Switch topped the charts, selling wise.
The success doesn't end there for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the latest edition of the super popular racing game, was the top-selling video game for April. They've sold 460,000 physical copies of the game, and with digital sales added that's more than 550,000 units. That's a ton of units! That's impressive, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released April 28, which means that only two days of sales were recorded.
Of course, games tend to sell fast out of the gate, but that's still a lot of sales in a little bit of time. That's the power of the Mario Kart franchise, and also the allure of a new gaming system. There still aren't a ton of games available for the Switch, but a couple more will be coming out soon. Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 are all scheduled to come out over the summer.
