Netflix Is Making A 'Dark Crystal' Prequel To Terrify A New Generation Of Kids

Netflix is getting into the '80s nostalgia game once more. The streaming giant has announced that they've ordered 10 episodes of a prequel to Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal.

The show is titled The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance and it will tell the story of three Gelfing who “discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power” and “set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”

Of course, if you've never seen Henson's 1982 film, that paragraph might not mean a ton to you. You also may want to consider yourself lucky, because The Dark Crystal is considered one of the scarier Henson outings. Now, one assumes the audience for the prequel is people who grew up watching the original movie, and hopefully as grown adults they won't be so scared by puppets.

The show is being directed and executive produced by Louis Leterrier of Now You See Me…well fame seems like a strong word. However, Jim Henson's Creature Shop will be making the puppets for The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance, so at least there's that. There is no planned release date as of now. Puppets take time, especially when you want to terrify kids.
